iSeries
(AS/400) System(s) Review - System(s) Health Check
In the fast changing world of information systems it is easy to ignore or reject
the latest features and capabilities available for the iSeries. Areas like LPAR,
the IFS (Integrated File System), iSeries Navigator and iSeries Central (formally
Operations Navigator and Management Central) are all relatively new technologies
for the iSeries. However, although these areas may be new the implications of
not embracing them can be far reaching. For example, as IBM make more and more
use of the IFS, the IFS has become a critical repository for data, many backups
strategies still do not include the IFS. There are certain tasks that can now
only be completed through the new GUI interfaces iSeries Navigator and Central,
how long will it be before other functions are no longer available from the
command line?
ATS's review service is designed to review all aspects of your system and work
practises. We document what is good and provide advice on what could be improved,
changed or included. The review covers all system critical areas such as Performance,
Security, Work Practice, Backups, and Networking.
In the review we look at all these areas and document the current situation,
detailing positive aspects and elements where change should be considered and
why.
The review report can be used as a basis to plan and cost justify changes or
procurements. ATS will review the reports findings and conclusions with you
at the end of the project. This is where we can explore the implications of
implementing the recommendations and not implementing them.
The review is designed to help you understand what areas are working well and
areas that require attention. The aim of the report is to enable you to make
informed decisions about changes and improvements to your current system and
work practices, helping you to maximise the benefits from your iSeries investment.
