Introduction

Security is a part of the operating system on the iSeries, and is implemented on every iSeries. This course introduces the implementation of security. It details how security works at system, user and object level.

What you will learn

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Introduce the key security features of the iSeries.
  • Control the implementation of security through system values and auditing.
  • Create and manage user and group profiles on the iSeries with the appropriate level of authority.
  • Manage user and group profiles using iSeries Navigator.
  • Use the security tools available.
  • Create and manage authorisation lists.
  • Understand and control object authorities.
  • Understand how *PUBLIC authority is assigned.
  • Secure the IFS.

Personnel who will be responsible for security on the iSeries, be it Users, IT Managers, Security Managers, Security Auditors or Operators.

Pre-requisites

Prior to attending this course, delegates must have some hands on experience on the iSeries and an overall knowledge of the iSeries. This can be acquired from either the iSeries OPERATIONS course or the iSeries SYSTEM FACILITIES course. The majority of this course is also covered on the iSeries SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION course, and delegates should not attend both courses.
